How To Clean Your Day And Night Blinds

Day and Night (or vision) blinds, with their unique alternating strips of sheer and opaque fabric, add a modern touch to your windows while offering versatile light control and privacy.

To maintain their beauty and functionality, regular cleaning is essential.

Here's our quick and simple step-by-step cleaning guide to help you clean your Day and Night blinds effectively, to keep them looking their best! No special equipment or expensive cleaning solutions required.

Prepare Your Day And Night Blinds

Ensure the blinds are fully extended and secured in place. Lay a clean towel or sheet beneath the blinds to catch any dust to avoid getting mess or dirt on your carpets or flooring.

Dust The First Layer

Start by using a feather duster or a lint free microfiber cloth to gently remove loose dust and debris from the first layer of the blinds. Work from top to bottom, brushing both sides of the sheer fabric.

Dust The Second Layer

Next, using the same feather duster or cloth, gently clean the second layer of the blinds. As day and night blinds consist of two layers of fabric for the 'day and night' shading effect, you will need to turn the mechanism to reveal the next section. Repeat the process until you have completed a full rotation of the blind. Work from top to bottom, gently brushing both sides of the fabric.

We would always advise against using a vacuum cleaner on your Day and Night blinds. The fabric is delicate and the suction, even if gentle, may cause fraying.

Spot Clean Stains (If Necessary)

If you notice any stains or spots on either the sheer or opaque layers of your Day and Night or Vision blinds, mix a mild detergent or blind cleaning solution with lukewarm water in a bucket.

Dampen a clean, soft microfiber cloth in the soapy water, and gently blot the stained area of either layer. Avoid scrubbing or rubbing vigorously to prevent damaging the fabric. Rinse the cloth with clean water and blot the area again to remove soap residue.

Always test any solutions in an inconspicuous area of the blinds first and avoid using any harsh chemicals or detergents on your blinds.

Dry Both Layers

Allow both layers of the blinds to air dry completely. Ensure they are fully extended to prevent any wrinkling. Once dry, they can then be operated as normal.

Don't Forget The Mechanism

The operating mechanism also needs to be kept dust and dirt free to ensure optimal and seamless operation of your blinds. This can be done with a feather duster or a microfiber cloth.

Do not use any wet cleaning products on motorised blinds and ensure any electrical connections are turned off before cleaning.
